UGC Ishan Uday Scholarship 2025: UGC – Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme of North Eastern Region (NER) is a significant scheme of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to promote higher education and increase the percentage of Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in the North Eastern Region of India. It seeks to provide financial assistance to economically weaker NER students to pursue undergraduate education.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the scholarship, the candidate must fulfil the following requirements:
- Location: Must be a native of one of the eight North Eastern States, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim or Tripura.
- Educational Qualification: Must have successfully passed Class EV or equivalent examination (CBSE, ICSE, NIOS, etc.) from a school located within NER in the academic year preceding the year of application.
- Admission: Must have secured admission in the first year of a full-time/regular UG degree in any university/college/institution recognised by UGC/AICTE/MCI, etc.
Note: Students admitted underthe Management Quota or students enrolled in Open/Distance/Part-time courses are not eligible. - Family Income: The family income should not exceed Rs 4.50 lakhs (Rupees Four Lakh Fifty Thousand) in the previous year, and all sources of family income should be included in these rules.
- Other Scholarships: The applicant should not be in receipt of any other Central or State Government scholarship in the same course.
This is also open to transgender applications.
Benefit/Scholarship Amount:
The scholarship is provided as a monthly stipend for 10 months in an academic year and is provided through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for the entire duration of the first degree course (3 to 5 years, depending on the course).
- General Degree Courses (B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., etc.) – Rs 5400 per month.
- Technical/Professional/Medical/Paramedical Courses (B.Tech., MBBS, BBA, Nursing, etc.) – Rs 7,800 per month.
Required Forms (Submit to NSP):
On the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), the following documents should be scanned and uploaded:
- Domicile Certificate from the competent authority of the NER State.
- Annual Family Income Certificate (of the last financial year) issued by the competent authority.
- Marksheet/Certificate of Class XII.
- Admit Card/Letter for admission in the first year of undergraduate studies in the University/College.
- Aadhaar Card (ID Proof and DBT Link).
- Bank Passbook/Cancelled Cheque, Student Name, Account Number and IFSC Code (Account should be Aadhaar-linked).
- Form submitted by the Head of the Institution (Annexure-1, which is a surety certificate).
- Caste/Class Certificate (SC/ST/OBC) as required.
- Disability Certificate, where applicable (3% horizontal reservation where applicable).
- Affidavit (Annexure-4) is mandatory in some cases as per the requirements of UGC.
Application Procedure:
The application is done completely electronically through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP):
- Go to NSP: Go to the official website of the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in).
- New Registration (OTR): When you are using this platform for the first time, there is a process called One Time Registration (OTR) where you have to fill in your Aadhaar number and mobile OTP. A unique Application ID will be generated.
- Login: Use your Application ID and Password to log in to NSP.
- Fill Application: Go to the Application section and select the UGC Schemes section or the Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme for NER.
- Enter Details: Enter all the personal, educational and banking details accordingly.
- Upload Documents: Upload the scanned copy of all the required documents.
- Review and Submit: Check and if there are any errors, click Final Submit.
- Print: Make a copy of the submitted application form for reference.
