UGC Fake University List 2025:

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 22 institutions across the country as UGC Fake University that were distributing degrees without any valid recognition. In the state-wise list, Delhi tops the chart with 10 fake institutions, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 4. The UGC has clarified that these institutions are not recognized under Sections 2(f) and 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and that degrees awarded by them are invalid for both employment and higher education. The Commission has urged students to verify the recognition status of any institution on the official UGC website before taking admission.

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially declared 22 institutions in India as fake universities that were granting degrees without authorization. The Commission stated clearly that the degrees issued by these institutions are not valid for academic or professional purposes.

As per Sections 2(f) and 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, these institutions are neither established nor recognized by the Central or State Governments. In the latest case, the Institute of Management and Engineering, located in Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi, has also been declared fake.

State-wise Distribution:

According to the UGC data, Delhi has the highest number of 10 fake institutions, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 4. Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and West Bengal each have 2, while Maharashtra and Puducherry have 1 fake university each.

UGC’s Warning:

The Commission has issued a strong warning to students and parents to verify the recognition status of any institution on the official UGC website before taking admission. The UGC noted that these fake institutions often target unaware students who do not verify the legitimacy of the universities.

Validity of Degrees:

The UGC has made it clear that any degree or certificate issued by these 22 institutions is academically invalid and will not be accepted for jobs or further education. Action is being taken against these institutions for violating Section 22 of the UGC Act, which prohibits unauthorized institutions from awarding degrees.

How to Verify:

Students are advised to visit the official UGC website (ugc.ac.in) to check the list of recognized universities. Before taking admission, ensure that the institution is established under a Central or State Act and approved by the UGC.

Securing Academic Future:

The UGC has urged students who are already enrolled in these fake universities to immediately transfer to recognized institutions to safeguard their academic future. The Commission warned that degrees from such fake institutions could put a student’s career at serious risk.
